The Year to Serve – August
Our theme this month is focused on schools and teachers. Our teachers work so hard to provide for our students each and every day. Our Bible verses to learn together this month are based on teaching and training.
Discovery Weekend at our church is the first weekend in August. The serve opportunity this week is to write a letter to a student attending Discovery.
As more and more students are able to travel and take field trips, our own neighbor, Unless U has opportunities to teach students via field trips. Ask Unless U if you can help chaperone their next field trip and sign up.
Every third Saturday of the month, volunteers travel to Nauvoo, AL and help pass out food, counsel, and pray with the community. This week’s serve opportunity is to volunteer at Christian’s Place Mission and serve the members of that community.
As the school year kicks off, tutors are needed to keep children at grade level and not fall behind. One of the best ways to help children is to give them the gift of reading. Many children do not read on their grade level and tend to fall behind, this week host a book drive in your neighborhood or donate a book to the missions office. You can also sign up to be a tutor through STAIR of Birmingham.
Our Boomer group is always out and serving in the community through their Boomer Workdays. What a better way than to learn is working alongside a mentor or friend serving others in a variety of projects. Contact Jim Frazier to volunteer and serve at the next scheduled workday.
