Mission Opportunities

Serving God through loving others is a part of who we are at Thrive Student Ministries. We want students to have the opportunity to serve God and join in what He is doing in our world each and every day! In order to make that a reality, students will have the opportunity to serve in a variety of ways throughout the year.

Small Groups

Each small group is encouraged to participate in at least one service-oriented activity each month. This allows for students and leaders to serve alongside one another and bring awareness to the different organizations and needs within our city. Small group leaders will be able to share their experiences with each other throughout the year to help grow our ministry partners.

5 Minute Missions

At different times throughout the year, Thrive will participate in 5 Minute Mission opportunities during Sunday School or Thrive @ 5 events to help our Missions Department. These events may be quick, but still provide great opportunities for our students to be hands-on in spreading the Kingdom of God.

Summer Opportunities

Each summer our ministry commits to providing opportunities for students to serve in a variety of areas.

ASP

For over 50 years, VHUMC has had a strong partnership with the Appalachian Service Project working to help make homes “warmer, safer, and drier” in Central Appalachia. Students who sign up for this trip will work on construction-based projects while also having the opportunity to deepen their faith through relationships with team members and home owners. ASP trips are available for students 8th-12th grade.

Register 8th-9th Grade

Register 10th-12th Grade

6th – 7th Grade

Each summer our 6th & 7th graders have the opportunity to serve together on a trip of their own. While this opportunity looks different each year, in the past, we have traveled outside of the Birmingham area to do light construction work, partnered with non-profits, served with churches, and more! We look forward to what Summer 2021 has in store for this trip.
